Paper Stills is an installation consisting of film, photography and a table constructed from paper. The table refers to the medium of photography because of its similarity to a printed photo. Souwen: “It’s an exact copy of what was really there but without the actual matter. The emptied body now only shows us what has been without it being actually there.” Paper Stills evokes a feeling of desire. It also unmasks the process of the making and montaging that is usually left ‘behind the scenes’. In her work Souwen shows both her interest in the medium and her doubts about its honesty.
